Is it freezer burn or just ice crystals?Updated a day ago
I completely understand why seeing ice crystals can feel concerning. The good news is that in most cases, this is totally normal and not a sign that anything is wrong with your meal.
When freshly cooked food is frozen, especially while it’s still a little warm, some of the natural moisture in the food turns into tiny ice crystals. That’s simply part of the freezing process. In fact, it often means the meal was frozen quickly to lock in freshness, not that it’s old or damaged.
Freezer burn is something different - it happens when food is exposed to air for a longer period of time, which can cause dryness and discoloration. What you’re seeing is typically just surface ice from freezing, not freezer burn. Since we don’t hold on to our food for long, it would be very unusual for freezer burn to develop in such a short amount of time.
We cook in small batches each week and keep a limited supply on hand, so your meals are prepared, frozen, and shipped out quickly. This helps maintain both quality and freshness.
